Having managed to draw at the Weserstadion last week, AC Milan will hope to make home advantage count when they meet Werder Bremen in the second leg of their UEFA Cup Round of 32 tie at the San Siro this Thursday. Milan drew 1-1 in the first leg last week. Veteran striker Filippo Inzaghi gave the Rossoneri the lead in the 36^th minute, only for Werder midfielder Diego to cancel it out six minutes from time.

Bremen had more chances in the second half, but Milan held firm, and will be very happy with the result. In the Serie A weekend clash, Milan beat Cagliari 1-0 with Clarence Seedorf scoring the winner. David Beckham nearly played the full game, and the England midfielder was one of the main creative sources for Milan in the absence of Ronaldinho and Kaka.

 

 

Werder Bremen coach Thomas Schaaf said that his side deserved a win in the first leg for their battling performance. They were the better side in the second half of the clash, and missed numerous opportunities to put the game beyond the reach of Milan. Bremen however contined their poor domestic form as they crashed to a 2-1 weekend defeat to Energie Cottbus in the Bundesliga. Despite dominating possession and shots on goal, Bremen could take nothing out of the game. Hugo Almeida scored Bremen’s only goal of the game.
