![]() ![]() The new season will also herald the start of several new sponsorship deals totaling a massive £60 million over the next few years, much of which will find it’s way directly to the clubs. The Scottish Premier League will kick off on 4th August with a new league sponsor after Clydesdale Bank won the sponsorship rights previously held by the Bank of Scotland for the next 4 years in a deal worth over £8 million. Interestingly a spokesman for Clydesdale bank said that their decision to bid for the new sponsorship deal was down to research which showed that more people watch the Scottish Premier League per head of population than any other country in Irish broadcasting firm Setanta Sports will continue to broadcast 60 live and exclusive matches from the Scottish Premier League alone over the course of the season, so that every fan will be able to watch live football regularly. BBC Scotland and STV’s Scotsport have the rights to broadcast highlights and should ensure that coverage is shown throughout the week of the weekends highlights. The BBC also own the rights to radio and online broadcasts through BBC Radio ![]() Despite rumours of a winter break being discussed in many quarters, the Scottish Premier League has confirmed that there will be no official winter break this year, although it may be re-introduced at a later date. Reserve team however will be allowed to take advantage of a winter break during the early part of 2008. Part of the reasoning behind the decision is the Euro 2008 football competition which will be hosted next summer in The new season is a very important one in the eyes of the footballing community as over the last few years the sporting behaviour of Scottish football fans in general has been brought into question. All of the teams in the Scottish Premier League have initiatives ongoing to address problem areas, none more so that those who have qualified for European competitions as during these matches their will be no second chances. They are facing points deductions or ultimately expulsion from tournaments if there are repeats of unsporting behaviours seen in recent years. Three clubs from the Scottish Premier League will compete in European competitions. As champions of the Scottish Premier League Celtic will be hoping to progress further into the last 16 of the Champions league competition after giving a very good account of what the Scottish Premier League has to offer in this competition last year. For the new season they will begin their campaign in the 3rd qualifying round and as yet do not know who their opponents will be. Rangers as well will join Celtic as the second of the leagues representatives and although they were absent from the Champions league last year they have shown that they can match the best teams in Europe in recent Champions League competitions. They will start their campaign in the 2nd qualifying round and should progress to join Celtic in the next qualifying round without too much of a problem from FK Zeta who are based in Hopefully a good performance from these clubs can lift the Scottish Premier League higher than their current Uefa ranking of 11th in terms of a nations representatives performance in European club football. But no doubt the behaviour of the fans will be of much more importance this year! One area the Scottish Premier League will be hoping to improve dramatically on during the new season would be in the turn around of managers in the top flight. Last season a total of 6 of the 12 managers of the teams in the Premier League departed under a variety of circumstances and this surely cannot reflect well upon Scottish Football in general. Although the Scottish Premier League cannot interfere in the daily management of clubs they will be watching closely this year to ensure that the overall improvements seen in the past few years are not affected by these changes. So everything is in place it seems for yet another fantastic season in the Scottish Premier league. Whether you want to watch Scottish Premier League live, Champions League football, UEFA Cup games or domestic cup competitions the Scottish Premier League has it all. With the new broadcasting sponsorship deals now firmly in place fans have so many more options to watch live football, whether on the TV, or through live football streams, fans have never had it so good. It may seem like a long time ago since the formation of the Premier League, but after 10 years Scottish Football is now regarded as having one of the best leagues in the world. Take a look and find out why!
