Manchester United are one of the biggest teams in the world. Possibly only the giants of Spanish football can equal them in the ability to draw support from all corners of the globe. As a result, it can be very difficult to get tickets to watch Manchester United live. Why not sit back, relax, and watch Man U live online through your pc thanks to Live Sport Network. Key Players
£30M man Dimitar Berbatov is still to make his mark at Old Trafford but weighed in with some vital goals last term. Owen Hargreaves has seen his appearances limited by serious injury although he is working hard towards full fitness. Nani and Anderson will be expected to play much bigger roles over the coming year, especially after the departure to Real Madrid of Cristiano Ronaldo and Carlos Tevez to local rivals City. With the aforementioned departures, the focus will be very much on two players - Wayne Rooney and Michael Owen. The signing of Owen was a surprise but whilst the England man has a history of serious injuries which have limited his playing time over the past few years, his ability as an impact player in the box is undisputed. Rooney wants to play every minute of every game and with the Portuguese and Argentinian internationals no longer in contention for starting places, Rooney’s only bone of contention may be being replaced by Owen in the latter stages of games. Antonio Valencia became Uniteds first ever Ecuadorian when he joined from Wigan Athletic. Highly-rated Frenchman Gabriel Obertan signed from Bordeaux. With no further movement in or out of Old Trafford, the squad that took Fergie to the Premier League title and Champions League final will once again serve him in his continued quest to add to his already substantial haul of silverware. No doubt both Sir Alex and the millions of Red Devils fans throughout the world will hope that the impact of the only two departures will not be as great as the impact both players had in a red shirt. Season 2009/10
The primary aim of the 2009/10 season must be to retain the Premier League title. Victory guarantees a continued presence in the Champions League which remains the Golden Chalice chased by all of Europe’s top clubs. Sir Alex Ferguson may once again forgo progression in the lesser of the domestic cup competitions, the Carling Cup, to concentrate the treble of Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League. With the loss of two of his charismatic front men in Tevez and Ronaldo, the Scot will look to Wayne Rooney to lead the line. So, can this squad cope with the loss of Cristiano Rolaldo and Carlos Tevez? Continued European success is what Ferguson craves, although whether he would be happy winning it again, in exchange for the Premiership, is unlikely. Rivals Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool will continue to make life difficult at home. The league will once again be closely fought this season, with Chelsea and Liverpool expected to be as strong, and Arsenal always a potential threat. But Manchester Utd will hope to retain the Premiership title and earn another Champions League crown with the FA Cup always remaining an attractive distraction. A Brief History
Manchester United were first known as Newton Heath LYR (Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway). They joined the Football League in 1892 and changed their name to Manchester United ten years later. They won their first league title in 1907/8 and their first FA Cup a year later. In 1910, they moved from Bank Street to Old Trafford, their home ever since and a fabulous place in which to watch live football.
During the suspension of league football through the Second World War, Old Trafford remained in the headlines for the wrong reasons. A German Air Raid bombed the ground in March 1941, causing much damage to the main stand, dressing rooms and offices. 1945 saw two major events - WW2 ended and a certain Matt Busby joined Manchester United. The Busby years saw highs and lows. The lowest ebb was the Munich Disaster of 6th February 1958. The team were returning from a second leg European tie against Red Star Belgrade, winning 5-4 on aggregate. Upon stopping to refuel at Munich airport, the plane crashed, killing 22 of the 44 passengers on board including seven players. Fifteen days later, that number rose to eight when Duncan Edwards, a player whose name continues to be mentioned amongst the greatest in the history of the game, died in hospital in Germany as a result of injuries sustained in the crash. Edwards was one of the team that had become known as the Busby Babes. The whole nation was in mourning, and from a football perspective, it seemed almost an impossible blow from which Man Utd may never recover. But recover they did, and in the 1960's, Busby had assembled another side capable of competing on all fronts. With legends such as Denis Law, Bobby Charlton and the Irish superstar George Best, they won the FA Cup, became champions of England and, in 1968, became the first English club to win the European Cup by beating Benfica 4-1. Busby retired the following year. When Alex Ferguson arrived from Aberdeen in November 1986, no-one could have predicted that a similar if not superior dominance would follow. In the twenty plus years since he joined, Ferguson has become the most successful manager in the history of English football, winning everything including two European Cups (including one under the Champions League format).
