The Emirates Cup will be held from July 28 to July 29 and will be featuring some of the biggest names in European club football. ![]() French club Paris Saint-Germain, Spanish side Valencia and Italian Seria A champions Inter Milan will be taking part in the competition along with hosts Arsenal. The format of the competition is very similar to the Amsterdam Tournament, with each win awarded 3 points, 1 point for a draw and a bonus point for each goal scored. German club Hamburg SV was supposed to have taken part in the tournament, but had to pull out due to its participation in the Intertoto competition and was replaced by Valencia. Soon after the completion of the competition on July 29, Arsenal will be flying out to Amsterdam to take part in the Amsterdam Tournament, which will be played from August 2. ![]() The competition will give much needed match practice for the young Arsenal side before the start of a crucial season. Arsenal coach Arsene Wenger will also have time and matches on his hand to get his tactics and team selection right. The club has undergone a mini clear-out this season, with as many as eight players allowed to leave. And the departure of Thierry Henry to Barcelona has left the striker's place in the team up for grabs. Though Wenger has revealed that Robin Van Persie and Emmanuel Adebayor will be his main strike force, Theo Walcott, Nicklas Bendnter and new signing Eduardo Da Silva will be hoping to impress the manager with some eye-catching performances in the pre-season friendlies. ![]() Meanwhile Valencia coach Quique Sanchez Flores will be hoping to settle down his new signings as soon as possible before the start of the new season. Eight new players signed up for Valencia this season, including Timo Hildebrand of Stuttgart, Javier Arizmendi from Deportivo and Ivan Helguera from Real Madrid. Italian Serie A champions Inter Milan has strengthened the team, bringing in David Pizarro, Hernan Crespo and Fabio Grosso. Inter will be looking to repeat last season's success that saw it win the Seria A title for the second time in two years. Inter fans will be hoping that their club will be able to make it three times in a row, but the club faces strong competition from city rivals AC Milan and newly promoted team Juventus.
